Mickey Mantle’s illegal bat sells for $40,000 at auction

Baseball legend Mickey Mantle’s unlawful bat, confiscated by an umpire in the course of the 1958 season, used to be bought at auction by 3 Texas industry companions for $40,000.

It’s believed that Mantle doctored the 35-inch lengthy, 33.2-ounce Adirondack 302 type with the tip of a nail or a sharp software to create a “ waffle-iron effect,” which would most likely make the ball raise farther, the ump noted.

The pockmarked bat was once sold at Pennsylvania-based Hunt Auctions on July 10.
